Candidate President Elect

SRLA President-Elect Profile
Name: Joe Sabin, Esq
Title: Assistant Professor
Affiliation: Southeastern Louisiana University
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Finance (2009) and a Master’s in Sport Management (2011) from the University of Southern Mississippi. I attained a Juris Doctor (2015) from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). I served on the faculty at the University of Dubuque from 2017 until 2020 and have served on the faculty at Southeastern Louisiana University since 2020.
I have attended SRLA every year that I have been a faculty member (2017-present), and it is often the only conference I attend in a given academic year. As I have heard many previous officers of the organization state, SRLA is, without a doubt, my “academic home.” I have been part of 12 SRLA presentations and have served as an advisor for undergraduates with poster presentations and competitions. Additionally, I have two publications in JLAS and serve on the journal’s editorial board.
This association has done a lot for me and my academic career. It is hard to fathom where I would be without the valuable connections and experiences I have had attending the conference. This is an opportunity to give back to the organization that has given me so much and do my best to help the organization navigate through a crucial time.
Candidate: Member-at-Large Marketing

SRLA – Member at Large (Marketing) Profile
Nicholas Smith, PhD
Assistant Teaching Professor
Florida International University
Hello everyone, I am writing today to humbly ask your consideration and vote for Member At Large Candidacy in Marketing for SRLA. I have been a proud SRLA member for four years and it has been a godsend! The community here has encouraged, helped, and presented me with great opportunities in Sport Management. We have presented and wrote together for years now. All the professors, researchers, students, editors, writers, and lawyers have encouraged me and made my work in academia better. Coming from a sales and hospitality background, this position is well suited to my strengths and I know I can help SRLA solicit business and potential partners in academia and other businesses to help in this endeavor to further the conference and organization. I have helped SRLA in the awards committee, and have acted as an abstract reviewer for two years. Moreover, I have received the 2023 President’s Award. This SRLA community has been very beneficial to me personally, so I feel that I want to help this great organization more. I appreciate your vote. Thank you.
Candidate – Social Engagement Committee Chair

Glenn Steimling, Ph.D.
Professor
Wm. Penn University
I first attended the SSLASPA Annual Conference in 1996 during my doctoral studies at UNM when it was hosted in Albuquerque. Then I later presented my dissertation results at the 1998 conference when it was held in Tucson. I’ve attended and presented many times when I was able, missed a few years along the way, but have always felt a strong connection with the Association.
Over the years I’ve taught at large public and small private universities with diverse student bodies, an HBCU, as well as serving as a recreation program director for a NM Pueblo Tribe. My professional experiences have left me color-blind but cognizant of the necessity to share with all others the importance of safe sport programs and venues. It has become a personal goal to ‘apply and spread the gospel’ ever since Herb Appenzeller scared me half to death at a coaching presentation in the mid-1980’s. I’ve given introductory presentations to countless groups and appreciate the fact that there is still much that needs to be done to inform practitioners of the necessity of ‘sport law’ education and knowledge.
One constant course in my teaching schedule has been ‘sport law’ and our field has shaped my professional activities both as an academic, practitioner and expert witness. As evidenced by the grey hair I’ve been around a day or two, but as my teaching career enters the final few semesters I want to make a greater contribution to SRLA for all that it has done for me over the years. My diverse academic and industry experiences and connections provide me with a unique perspective that will allow me to serve the Association with uncommon expertise as the Social Engagement Committee Chair.
Thank you for your consideration.
